Final evaluation

After completing our short film and ancillary tasks, we kept looking over them to see if there was anything we could add in or take out to benefit them and make them better but I have now come to the conclusion that everything we did was done for a reason and adds to them individually in its own way.

I am very pleased with the way our film turned out, although at first we were finding it a little difficult to manage our time, get all the actors at the shoots on time...etc we eventually got our self organised so that it all went to plan.

We also made a few mistakes whilst recording our first draft of our film, for some strange reason we were filming as though we were editing in our film. Luckily we manage to put most of our film together avoiding this tricky situation however the problem arose in the scene where the two characters are in conversation in the lounge. Unfortunately we hadnt filmed enough clips from different shots and angles so we were unable to cut to anything else. Luckily we were able to refilm a few weeks later and fix our problems however it was slightly unconvienient and caused a few continuety editing mistakes.

If I could change one thing about our film it would be to add music in. Originally we decided not to introduce music into it because right from the first scene there is talking and therefore the music would overpower the voices and make the scene less effective. However, when the credits come up at the end, our film could have benefited with a bit of music. We were told we weren't allowed to use songs by artists because they were copyrighted and we couldn't get permission which meant if we wanted music we would have to compose it our self in a programme called 'Garage Band', In my opinion Garage Band works very well if you need to add in sound effects or music for suspense...etc but it is very difficult to create a whole song without any help that would fit in with our film so we came to the conclusion that our film would look more professional without any.

I think our poster works so well because its not overcrowded and busy. It may not be that complex but the fact that it is simple and to the point makes it bolder and gives it more edge to stand out. There is less to look at, making it easier to remember. I think our colour scheme for the title 'The Morning After' was one of our best ideas because it is something so simple yet looks so effective. It has stayed with us throughout the whole coursework process and is something anyone looking at our coursework would find hard to forget.

The Magazine review didn't start off so well because we had never done one before so we didn't know where to start, what to put in it, how to do the layout...etc. We then learnt how important research is as it taught us everything we now know and really helped us the whole way through, i now thing that our magazine review looks just as professional as one you would find in a film magazine.

Finally, the presentation we had to do involved answering 5 questions that were given to us. What helped us most with this is all the research we had done throughout the process of all the other tasks. We didn't leave our self with as much time as we would of liked for the presentation but i am happy with the final result and think it presents everything it needs to.

clips for my powerpoint

we used these two clips on our powerpoint to illistrate 2 of our conventional editing techniques used through our film.
The two techniques seen above are:
1) Cross Cutting / A montage sequence.
2) a Point of View shot.

Our PowerPoint.

We had to create a Power point presentation evaluating our ancillary tasks and short film. There were five main questions we had to awnser:
1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product?
2)How effective is the ocmbination of your main product (short film) and ancillary texts?

3)What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
4)How did you use new media technologies in the constuction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

The evaluation was worth 20% and therefore we wanted to try and achive as many marks as possible. This is how we did it: - We put clips onto our powerpoint as illustrations and examples. - useing images as examples - makeing sure we answered every question in detail without haveing too much writing. - Giving our audience a questionnaire to fill out about our short film and ancillary texts. - makeing bar and pie charts to show the results from our audience feedback Bellow are two of the clips we used in our powerpoint. These clips were created to illistrate 2 of our conventional editing techniques used through our film.:
1) Cross Cutting / A montage sequence.
2) a Point of View shot.

Our Final Ancillary tasks.

Bellow is the poster and magazine review for our short film:

We used all our research and development to help us for our final products, and we followed certain conventions making both our poster and our magazine review realistic for our viewers.
This has all been written about in our powerpoint presentation.

Photographs of the locations we used.

Photos of locations
View more presentations from nikki464.
Before choosing our final location we had to go to a few different types
of locations and take a few photos before deciding which location
would suit our film
the best. As you can see we choose the second location on this slide.
We felt the first location wouldn't work due to the house being
surrounded by houses and so our two characters wouldn't have been
able to get into a house not belonging to them. Also the second
house worked nicely also due to the house
coming off the two main roads, after a long think about it we
thought it wouldnt make sense for our two drunken characters to go into
a close and choose the one house which so happens not to have any people in.

Altogether after coming up with the pros and cons for these two houses we decided on choosing the house in the second slide. All the images on the second slide have been a part of the location used whilst filming our film.
We have the bedroom scene, the toilet scene with layken (Amy), the lounge scene where Jack and Amy are having a conversation, the scene at the start where Amy and Jack are stumbling over walking back from the party, the scene where both the characters enter the house and the kitchen scene and lastly the scene where Amy is coming down the stairs.

Our first rough outline to our film poster

Although this was our first sketched for our film poster, after researching several film posters we decided to base our poster on the film
"The Break-Up". This enabled us to focus on conventions of real media products.

Film reviews research

This was quite useful research, however after researching film reviews in detail which are displayed in magazines we realised that the review would take up an A4 page worth. This review did help for the rough layout of the review.

Looking at the start of a short film.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/filmnetwork/films/p005f7db

1) Channel 4's IDEASFACTORY presents
2) A dogtooth media production
3) TITLE OF THE FILM.
4) characters name followed by the actors names
5) editor - director of photography - sound recordist - music
6) produced by
7) written and directed by

When adding the titles into our film and seeing the way inwhich the titles are placed i decided to look at a few short films for help which are roughly the same genre as ours. This film was about a man getting over his old girlfriend who finds another man, and so the ex boyfriend hires a karati man to deal with his ex girlfriends new boyfriend, however in the end we find out that the man who he hired to beat up the new boyfriend ends up with the girlfriend.
The order about is the routine in which the titles were shown.

This is a poster from the film, The Break Up. We thought it would be a good poster to study seeing as it is the same genre as the film which we have produced. A romantic comedy. This research is crutial so that we are able to follow the codes and conventions to a film poster, however this is for a feature film, not a short five minuet film which is what we are doing.
Looking at this poster we have decided it might be a nice effect to have our two characters sat in bed starring at eachother in confusing seeing as this would represent the fact that neither of them know eachother ( hence a one night stand ).

On The Break-up poster the husband is on the left hand side, and the wife is on the right hand side. Both of them are expressing their feelings on their face so the audience can pick up the fact that they both look fed up and unhappy. They are both sat up in bed leaving a big gap between the two which emphasises the fact that they are no longer a happy couple and that the film is clearly going to be about a couple 'breaking up'. Above the characters are the names of the acters. And at the very bottom there is information about the makers of the film, and the film, including the date this film will be released.
